Two years ago
Two years ago I found myself walking up the stairs at the American Tobacco Complex in Durham, NC. I was nervous-excited-anxious-hopeful all wrapped up together in such a way that I could physically feel the emotions in my stomach.  I was coming off a short stint at a now-defunct software start-up.  I was less certain than ever about what my long term career would look like, and yet more hungry...

Catch up
Under a pile of work, so no time to discuss the beauty of Wake’s inbounds play to beat Duke or the artistry that was Tywon Lawson’s buzzer beating three pointer to allow the Heels to escape in Tallahassee. Instead, I’ll point you to long-time friend, former roommate, current Los Angelean, and full time music/movie/culture guru Michael Eller’s new blog. Eller’s...

We had a great time at Supper Club last weekend though we were sad that it was a smaller group than usual.  Still, we were able to rock it out on Rock Band 2.  Check out some highlights.

The Power of Facebook
I’ve had several conversations lately with friends who have not yet jumped aboard the Facebook train.  While some had concerns about privacy and opening up their lives to the world, there was a more practical admission from most - an account would mean information overload and yet another timesink in lives which are already overloaded with tasks and to-do’s. I can respect the...

Good News Friday
Here’s some positive, encouraging news to make you feel good as you head into the weekend. Last week I went to one of Tracy’s basketball games, but ended up going a bit late as I tried to get a quick run in before the game (living out my resolutions!)  Though it was only about 15 degrees outside as I made my way to the game, I was burning up in my new puffy coat, having just completed...

Let's Forget
Let’s forget for a just a few moments whether we’re aligned Left or Right, whether we’re more “red state” or “blue”. Let’s look past the campaign and the raging rhetoric of partisanship which has become so much of our everyday lexicon. Let’s stop, only for a few seconds, and leave the troubles on Wall Street and Main Street and everywhere in...

New York Yuppies
I guess Tracy and I are officially New York yuppies – I think you earn that distinction when you spend the better portion of your MLK day off at a wine tasting with more than a dozen others attempting to learn a little about the difference between syrah from the northern Rhone region of France vs. the fruitier, sweeter grenache/syrah blends of southern France.  We are hardly wine aficionados, but...

The Sitting Chair
I’m writing this blog post from the comfortable confines of the newest addition the Mansfield crib: a brand new leather recliner which sits in the corner of our family room (or should I say only room). The story of this recliner can be traced back for years, as this is how long I’ve had my eye on getting a chair such as this.  With just about every trip to Pottery Barn, World Market,...

Nathan Lives to Eat
Some loyal blog readers may remember about a month ago when we were treated to a first class meal made by our good friend Nathan Kamp. In addition to his gig as a professional model, Nathan loves to cook and yesterday launched a website called “Nathan Lives to Eat” where he’ll be posting regular webisodes featuring “good friends, good food, real life.” The first...

Christmas is gone, but I’m sure more than a few of you remember the Lexus December to Remember commercials which showed young kids talking about their dream presents of holidays past, only to have these dreams one-upped by receiving a Lexus. Our nephew Jacob lived out the “before” version of one of those commercials this year when he received a Lightning McQueen Power Wheels...

Of Slumdogs and Skating - A "Weekend" in Review
There was nothing flashy or chic on our agenda this weekend.  In fact, the only real plan we had when we woke up on Saturday morning (quite late I might add!) was to  watch the Panthers playoff game on Saturday evening and our Tar Heels in hoops on Sunday. Alas, the weekend turned out to be lovely, albeit in a pajama pants-homemade pancakes-cuddle up and read-and eventually do laundry but...

Sitting for Deac Tickets
Perhaps one of the greatest unknown films of our generation is a documentary classic, “Hands on a Hardbody” - the film is a true life account of 24 contestants who compete in an endurance contest to win a Nissan Hardbody truck from a Texas auto dealer.  The last person standing with his or her hand on the truck wins. For those who have seen the documentary, you’ll understand...

We steered clear of Times Square at New Year’s, which was a cinch since we were still in North Carolina.  Instead we took part in a high class affair known as A Formal New Year’s Eve, hosted graciously by Robert and Cat Whitehill in Durham.  It was a fun evening, as you’ll see in the above video.

We’re back safe and sound in NYC after a fantastic 11 days in North Carolina.  Our time down South was filled with great moments with family and friends.  We’ll likely be posting a bunch on the blog this week, and I thought I’d lead off with one of my favorite memories from this year’s Christmas.  It involves my nephew Jacob and his excitement to show his sister Jensen her...
