Two Birthdays
November 29th has come and gone, so that means that I’m now officially 28 years old and our Little Baby Mans is not to share a birthday with his/her daddy. Since the day we found out about the due date, it’s been fun to think about the possibility of sharing a birthday (though Tracy was decidedly a fan of each member of the family having their own special day). Alas, we don’t...

A little different Thanksgiving
Since we’re on Baby Watch here and traveling to NC is not an option, we spent the Thanksgiving holiday in NYC.  It was the first time either of us has spent a Thanksgiving apart from one of our direct families, a fact which gave us yet one more reason to reflect on our good fortune to date. In lieu of traditions we have grown to adore, we celebrated in a little different way.  There was no...

Hard Hitting Kid
We’re coming up on Thanksgiving.  Which means turkey.  And stuffing.  And, of course,  football. While we can argue about whether the college game or pro ball is more entertaining, I think we call can appreciate a good hit when we see one, be it from an amateur or a pro. But what’s the thought when the one making the hit is 6 YEARS OLD, as in this clip from a pee wee league. ...

New Camera Fun
In light of the newest addition to the Mansfield family and a certain inclination I have to document a lot of our life via pictures, movies, and words, we made a pre-baby upgrade to our digital toolbelt by purchasing a digital SLR camera - the Canon EOS Rebel XS (Thanks to the Smiths and Ashley for the advice on cameras).  I’m looking forward to learning how to use the new toy to take...

Heels in the Garden
Last night we took in the UNC basketball victory over Ohio State in Madison Square Garden. We went to the game with good friend and college roommate Neill Wessell, who scored us some fantastic seats three rows back on the baseline by the Ohio State bench. You can’t quite tell from this screen shot of the highlight, but the red arrow below is pointing at Tracy and Baby Mans. What’s...

Baby Mans: Boy or Girl?
We are getting to crunch time here in BABY WATCH 2009 - with the due date fast approaching, we’re ready to roll in the event that Baby Mans shows signs that he or she wants to enter the world. I say he or she because we going with the old fashioned surprise.  Not knowing has been a ton of fun - we probably ask each other every single day if the other has a gut feeling either way. Not only ...

Harrison Barnes: D-Day
This week, college basketball started slowly but surely across America.  It will be a few months until March Madness kicks into high gear, but that doesn’t mean there is a lack of drama. Today is Decision Day for the #1 recruit in the high school senior class, Harrison Barnes of Ames, Iowa.  By all indications, Barnes is a top notch player, student and citizen, and there are still 6 schools...

Great Firewall of China
A former co-worker of mine is currently living in China in hopes of learning the language and applying the language skills in business endeavors down the road.  It just so happens that Eric is a loyal reader of this blog - that is, until the governing bodies in China decided it was time to halt this endeavor.  As he explained in an email to me yesterday: Ok so maybe not huge news but I wanted to...

Sign of the Times
Tracy and I have been making a conscious effort to “live it up” during these last few weeks prior to the birth of Baby Mans.  On more than one occasion recently we’ve been trying to make a decision on what to do, when we inevitably say, “why not, let’s do X…who knows when we’ll be able to do that again once the baby comes.” The result of the above...

New Hansbrough Commerical...Wow!
Carolina’s favorite son of recent years has certainly been hitting the commercial circuit since going pro.  We’ve all see the AT&T commercial by now when he helps to return a lost dog to a cute little girl.  But the new Hansbrough commercial is a local bit for a car dealership and Psycho T gets a speaking role this time. I’m sure the Anybody but Carolina crowd is going...

Pain is temporary, but pride is forever
One year ago I experienced the NYC Marathon for the 1st time as a spectator.  About 5 months ago I found out I would run the 2009 Marathon as a Charity Runner for the American Cancer Society.  Three weeks ago I ran my last, long 20 mile run of training.  And a little more than 24 hours ago I my first steps on the Verrazano Narrows bridge on a journey that would take my 26.2 miles through all 5...
