For all who are thirsty
With a fairly open agenda last Saturday, I traversed down to Sara Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side to see if I could stumble upon a pickup soccer game. After watching for the better part of an hour, I finally got on a field for the first time in Manhattan - a caged field in between a city block, but complete with FieldTurf, goals, and enough space to play 6 a side. Except for a few touches...
One thing that really excites me when I think about last weekend and the group of guys that are closest to me is the amazingly diverse talents that are represented in the group.
You have to look no further than the career paths our crew has taken to see what I mean. We have aspiring doctors, a lawyer, a nurse anesthetist, a Hollywood power broker in training, two guys in real estate, a marketing...
Let's Play a Game
I want you to play a game with me…a thought experiment of sorts.
I want you to think of someone you know who makes you laugh everytime you’re around them. I’m talking big, bellyache type laughs that might even leave you a little tired after they’re done but they’re always worth it.
Now think of perhaps a different person, one who knows you inside and out and can...
OC2K9
It’s hard to believe, but the is almost here and I can hardly wait.
This day I speak of is the annual Overlook Cup, when 11 former roommates from UNC days get together for a long weekend of food, fellowship and seemingly endless remembrances of days since past.
Perhaps some will remember the good times shared on this blog from OC2K8, which was held in San Francisco and hosted by then...
The inaugural Huitsing trip to NYC has come and gone and I can hardly believe how much fun we had. There were quite a few laughs, sights seen, and a neverending fascination from our nephew Jacob at the thousands of taxis in the city.
While the highlight for Jacob was undoubtedly the many modes of transportation - when asked for his 3 favorite parts of NYC, he said “taxi, subway, bus”...
The Huits are coming to town
Over the last 7+ months we’ve had the good fortune of hosting no less than 16 different overnight guests (and more than a few of them more than once!) We know this because we make all of our overnight guests sign a guest book - we don’t mandate that they write something funny, sappy or especially memorable, but we do want to have a tangible memory of the great times we’ve shared...
In the Madness we often forget...
March is upon us, which means springtime in North Carolina (I’m afraid we have another month here in NYC) and, of course, March Madness.
It’s no secret that I spend an inordinate amount of time following college hoops and care deeply for how my Heels finish during tourney time. It’s easy to get caught up in the Madness. While we spend time arguing about who should be ACC...
On Running and Reading...
Like a lot of people, I made a bit of a New Years resolution this year, only in my case I posted my goals for the world to see. My resolutions were simple and sweet: my focus this year is on Running and Reading, due in large part to the awesome Will Smith video of the same name.
The bad news about resolutions is that they’re not easy to keep, though I have to admit that by sharing my...
Things Fall Apart
It’s been a rather unfortunate few months for Tracy as it relates to suffering some annoying injuries.
First it was the wipeout caused by an errant ice skater at Bryant Park, which led to a couple weeks of tailbone discomfort.
Then, last week she caught an elbow to the chin opening a cut during one of her basketball games.
It was the basketball league which struck again last night. At...
My how time flies...
They say time flies when you’re having fun. In that case, the last four years must have been an absolute blast, because in thinking back, I feel like I’ve been on a high speed burn.
You see, I’m thinking back four years to March 2, 2005. On that day, Tracy and I were still a month and half from our wedding day. A whole slew of future memories were not yet even the stuff of dreams. But on March...
