Family Fun
We’ve settled into life as a family of 3 in NYC. And while that means we’ve had a little less “excitement” that could potentially be blogworthy, we are still having a lot of fun, as you can see from a few pics shot over the last week.
Race Day Fandom
It wasn’t too long ago that I laced up the running shoes, plugged in the iPod, and completed 26.2 miles in the Marathon. I was reminded of just how fantastic that experience was yesterday when we went out to the Park to cheer on our good friends Stephen, John and Summer in the Manhattan Half Marathon.
It’s a different experience being “outside the ropes”, but we were so...
Funny Face
Over the years I’ve identified a standard go-to face for any sort of “funny face” picture. Some people go with bugged eyes, stick out their tongue, or pull their mouth apart in an effort achieve full zany. I take a more subtle approach - the closed mouth smile.
There’s a certain indescribable silliness in a closed mouth smile. It’s suitable for any occasion in...
New Routines
Now that our little man has 6 weeks under his belt, he’s starting to transition from feeling like a “newborn” into a real infant or baby or whatever you want to call him. The difference is so vast from the day we brought him home from the hospital - it’s hard to believe it’s only been a month and a half!
With the physical growth we’re seeing, Miller is also...
Celebrating MLK
Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I hope at least some of you will take time to watch his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Simply stunning. Some of the most powerful words ever.
We were “explaining” to Miller why Daddy is home today. And while we were doing so it was cool to think about the country in which he will grow up. A country 47 years...
Take that Dude Perfect
The ability to hit amazing trick basketball shots apparently is not solely owned by college guys from Texas A&M. It turns out, in fact, that professional basketball players are pretty good at this stuff too.
Just take a look at Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors, who hits an unreal over the shoulder from the tunnel shot.
As noted on the Yahoo Sports blog, perhaps more...
View from Above
A lot of people I know have expressed a fear for flying. I’ve never had such a fear, and find that I generally enjoy flying (at least the part after you’re through security and in the air). For some reason, I get a lot of great thinking done at crusing altitude. Perhaps its the fact that I’m “unplugged” from blackberry, twitter, phone, etc. But there’s at...
Working Out
Miller is almost 6 weeks old, which means he’s already on a bit of a workout regimen. Our doc advised us to do daily “tummy time” to help strengthen his neck. In the last few days, our little guy has made considerable progress and is beginning to lift his head entirely off the ground.
It’s definitely a workout for him. He starts out face flat on the ground

Back to Work
Last week felt a bit unusual since we spent the first part traveling back from our NC trip and the latter part getting things settled in the apartment. After a Saturday of errands and a Sunday that was jam packed with two parties, today we were back to the regular schedule of what will be our daily lives.
For me, the schedule is pretty much the same - morning subway ride and walk to work, where...
On Running, Reading & Resolutions
Last January I put myself out there by sharing my New Year’s resolutions. My overall resolutions were pretty simple - they followed the premise of the below video from Will Smith: running & reading.
It was my goal to run 4 times a week, apply for the NYC Marathon, and to read 25 books. Simple, easily measured goals for 2009.
Now that the year is done, I can happily say that I...
Back in the swing of things
We are back in the big city. And it is COLD.
But that’s no reason to stay inside. Miller and his mom are headed out for some lunch and errands - a little bundling up goes a long way.
One Month Star
Our little man is officially one month old as of yesterday. Wow.
I’m reminded of an old Ann Landers newspaper clipping which my parents had posted on a refrigerator growing up. ”The years rush past, boys grow up so fast,” the headline read.
Oh so true.
As if achieving a month of life wasn’t enough, Miller made his own headlines today, or at least an appearance in the...
Coming Full Circle
Spending Christmas break back in Greensboro has me feeling more than a bit nostalgic, feelings which are undoubtedly heightened by the almost 12 pounds of cuteness who entered our life 29 days ago. My entire childhood was spent in this city, and thus there are a deluge of memories from days long past every time we’re back.
One familiar setting from my childhood is a friendly...
Go Tar Heels!
Of all the firsts we’ve already experienced with Miller thus far - first subway ride, road trip, visits with family and friends - there was a new “first” this week which had us brimming with excitement.
On Wednesday night we headed east to Chapel Hill for a first visit to the campus of our alma mater and a chance to take in a Tar Heel basketball game in person.
Not only did...
