Eat your heart out Ward Cleaver
So I’m a bachelor this week, which means I’m on my own in terms of fending for food.  A generation ago, a husband home alone may have been a recipe for disaster.  But it’s 2010 people, and instead of a recipe for disaster, I thought tonight I’d take the opportunity to try out a new recipe. You see, I took a gander in the fridge and decided to throw a little something...

Mommy/Son Road Trip
Tracy and Miller left for St. Louis this morning for a week-long trip to see extended family.  Tracy was more than a bit nervous to be traveling alone with the little man, and the steady drizzle in NYC had her scared that a delay was looming.  Alas, the plane was on time, she made it through security (after a rather long wait due to massive Spring Break lines) and the two landed safe and sound in...

Miller as Middle Aged Man
We got an adorable email from Tracy’s mom the other day.  She was driving around town with our nephew and niece Jacob and Jensen.  Per usual, the inquisitive Jacob was asking random questions.  I’ll let Donna’s email explain how the conversation went:  This morning as I was driving Jacob to school he asked me if I could guess how old he would be when his daddy is 65…I...

Eller is Engaged
Over the years, we tend to develop all different kinds of friendships.  There are toddler play date friends, summer camp friends, high school hangout friends, off at college alone friends, work friends, and then, of course, our-kids-are-friends-so-I-guess-we’ll-be-friends-friends. So I guess, in the end, it’s not the sheer presence of so many friends which is amazing.  Rather,...

– Been reading Lewis’ Screwtape Letters again.  So good.  And inspiring to not let our lives be drawn away by the tempting power of doing “Nothing”.

Sittin' Pretty
Yes indeed, we have a big boy who’s sitting up in his Bumbo seat.  Sure, it may have only been a few minutes tonight.  And he may have developed a slight lean as his neck grew a little tired.  But it was way better than a week ago when his head had to be propped against the couch and even then it ended up all the way leaning on one shoulder. We’re not quite to full sit up and play...

WatchWatch
35,000 still photos + 5 days of post production + 1 original song for the soundtrack = one of the most amazing time lapse videos i’ve ever seen.  The artist uses a technique called tilt-shift which creates the illusion of miniaturizing. New York in miniature.  Mesmerizing. Read more about how they did it.

Happy Birthday Jacob!
Today is March 2nd, which has become a very important day for us, as it’s the birthday of our nephew Jacob. I can distinctly remember March 2, 2005 when I got the call from then-fiancee Tracy (our wedding was a month and a half later) that Jennifer was in labor.  By the time I was able to leave work that afternoon, Jacob Henri Huitsing had entered the world.  He was the first less than 1...

What's Up Doc?
Today was a big day for us all.  After a month of postponed (due to snow) and rescheduled appointments for Miller’s 2 month check-up, we finally made it in a few days short of 3 months.  The beginning of the appointment was the easy part, as MIller played the role of prizefighter, getting weighed and measured for size. Our main man tipped the scales at just a shade under 15 lbs.  While...
