Shooting Hoops!
This weekend we all went over to Chapel Hill for the UNC game. It was technically Miller’s 2nd time in the Dean Dome - he was a spectator as a 20 day old for a game but spent it all in an Ergo Baby attached to Tracy. We were interested to see his reaction.
It took a little while for Miller to warm up to the loud noises and all the people. But eventually he seemed to enjoy it and even watched a little of the game. Of course, much of the excitement was watching all the other stuff. He was at first scared by the Ramses mascot (just as he is sometimes with the guy in the Chick fil a cow suit). So we were a little worried when the mascot came and sat literally right next to us during the very beginning part of the game. But Miller soon was ok with him and even snuck in a few waves when Ramses wasn’t looking.
One other thrill (not captured via photo) was the fact that Miller and I got on the big screen during one of the timeouts as they were doing crowd shots. They zoomed in on us for a couple seconds - kind of cool for a first game to get on the big screen.
We’re not sure if this is directly correlated to the game but today it seems that Miller is way more interested in the hoop we have in the play area. We had put it up to 4 feet a couple months ago so he can’t dunk on it anymore and, until a few days ago, he hadn’t been able to consistently make baskets. But tonight he literally played with the hoop for close to 30 minutes straight and hit tons of shots (amidst even more misses…but, hey, shooters gotta shoot). I was able to catch a miss and a make on video. We’ll see if this new infatuation sticks or not.
Doctor Appointments
We doubled down this morning on doctor appointments - did the 2 month check up for Charlotte at the same time as Miller’s 2 year old visit. It’s always fun to get the heights/weights and both kids did great. It was especially crazy to think about how different and older Miller felt compared to his visit just 6 months ago. And we are beyond grateful that we have two very healthy kids.
Miller crossed the 3 foot mark in height!
Sweater Day 2011
For those who have been following this blog for a long time, you’re familiar with The Sweater Fraternity. This group started in 2007 when I, along with a couple other guys at work, convinced people to wear sweaters on a particular day. ”Sweater Day” at the Bank was designed to be a celebration of all kinds of sweaters - good and bad, expensive and ugly - and a kick off to the winter “sweater season”.
The tradition has grown over the years and we’ve had sweater days in 2007,2008 & 2010 (I can’t remember why we missed out in 2009). We usually do it in November, but this year somehow the month passed by and we found ourselves in mid-December having not yet celebrated our favorite threads.
So we put together very quickly Sweater Day 2011 yesterday and had awesome participation (including our CEO, Chief Credit Officer and a number of other execs).

Champions!
Yesterday afternoon we were glued to the TV watching the UNC Men’s Soccer team win its 2nd National Championship, a 1-0 thriller of a victory vs. Charlotte. The UNC program has been so close the last 3 years so it was fantastic to see them do everything necessary (including staving off an incredible barrage of shots in the final 5 minutes) to win the championship.

The team’s run to the title brought back so many memories from a decade ago, when the Heels won their 1st men’s soccer championship on a cold and blustery day in Columbus, Ohio. So proud to be a Heel today!
Buy toys that MATTER this Christmas
A little more than two years ago I shared a post about our friends Will and Rachel Haughey, who each launched separate entrepreneurial ventures with a few months of each other. Rachel’s coffee shop in Darien, CT is still going strong. And Will’s toy company, Tegu, has continued to grow and today is much stronger than ever before.
Every so often I am able to catch up with Will and get an update on the business and it’s so cool to hear the passion in his voice about what he and his brother are building. Much of that passion translates in this video, which goes into a little more detail about the awesome Tegu toys and how they are helping to change the country of Honduras.
I encourage you to watch the video. And if you have kids and need an idea for a great gift that will impact more than just your kids’ Christmas morning, consider buying a set of Tegu blocks. They’re not the cheapest gift you can buy this holiday season, but they are incredibly high quality and impactful, both near and far.
