NYC on two wheels

We moved to NYC late last summer, but even in our short glimpse of the warm weather months, we could tell that the city is ripe for fun when the sun is out.  Now that the warm weather is here, we’re excited about taking advantage of the opportunities.  The good news is that there seems to be a proliferation of “free” events and “summer deals” - you just have to know how to find them.

We took advantage of one of these summer deals on Saturday, by renting two bikes as part of the Downtown Alliance “Bike Around Downtown” program.  Thanks to a state-funded grant (aka, our tax dollars), it’s possible to rent bikes for FREE for a 3 hour period - That’s a $35 value per bike.

We picked up bikes Saturday at noon at the South Street Seaport location and rode along the southern edge of Manhattan.  After traversing the crowds near Battery Park, we made our way up the Hudson River coastline on the beautiful bike paths.  We ended up cycling our way all the way to West 90th street and entered the Park before dropping the bikes off at the Bike n Roll kiosk at Columbus Circle.

All in all, it was a fantastic way to see the city, get a bit of exercise, and the price sure was right! We’re sure to take advantage of this deal again many times this summer.
