A little different Thanksgiving

Since we’re on Baby Watch here and traveling to NC is not an option, we spent the Thanksgiving holiday in NYC.  It was the first time either of us has spent a Thanksgiving apart from one of our direct families, a fact which gave us yet one more reason to reflect on our good fortune to date.

In lieu of traditions we have grown to adore, we celebrated in a little different way.  There was no Turkey Trot this year, but we adapted via a long run/walk with friends in Central Park (which is, we should add, not a shabby place to get a little pre-turkey exercise).  When it came to food, we were “adopted” by two sets of friends - first we ate appetizers in the neighborhood at the Ellis apartment.

For our big meal, we were invited to join about 25-30 others for a Thanksgiving feast prepared by our good friends Nathan and Elizabeth Kamp.  The Kamps have lived in the city for many years and these Seattle natives have made Thanksgiving their holiday for bringing together all sorts of friends, neighbors, and loved ones who are in NYC for the holiday.  What was once a small gathering in their apartment has morphed into a legit party in a rented out office space.

Nathan cooks the grub for the feast (with some help from his buddies), while Elizabeth designs and puts together the elaborate table settings and decorations.  While nothing beats dinner with family, the spread provided by the Kamps was as close to a perfect meal as one can get.

After the wonderful Thanksgiving festivities, it’s back to Baby Watch.  We’re so glad to be joined for the rest of the weekend by my parents who are hoping the little one decides to come while they’re here.  For now…we wait!
