One of the great things about living in New York is the fact that culture is quite literally everywhere.  And while I may not have been the biggest fan of the MoMA, one thing I have already grown to appreciate is the live music which seems to always be ringing from every corner.

When I say live music, I’m not just speaking of big name shows at unique venues like the Bowery Ballroom.  I’m talking about the lone trumpet player on a bench in Central Park, the septuagenarian on the hammer dulcimer in the subway, or the impromptu Carribean concert I took in on the corner of 50th and Park today while running an afternoon errand.

(For the record, not sure if you can see via this picture, but the lead singer showed the best use of a cow bell since Ferrell in More Cowbell.)

But culture is not limited to the arts – there’s sporting culture too.  No, not A-Rod, Favre, or the hapless Knicks.  I happened upon the above video on CNN today which harkened me back to the days in Teague Dorm when Furnas and I became quite the proficient foosballers.  I’m a little rusty today, but have to admit that these guys seem to be on a different level altogether.  Even so, it might be fun to head over to Fat Cats sometime to relive the glory days.
