Welcome to Anthropologie
Many of you probably remember Tracy’s decision to quit her job at Geneva shortly after we moved up to Manhattan. I asked members of the blogaudience to contribute thoughts in a sort of Open Source Job Hunt. We did receive a few suggestions, and also had good conversations with family and friends during which we realized more and more how much it would benefit Tracy to find a role which offered copius opportunities to interact with people.
Tracy did a great job of searching high and low on the Craigslist job postings, but so many of the postings seemed to provide different variations of desk jobs. Or in other words, various forms of the job she just left.
But one day Tracy stumbled upon a listing from Anthropologie which offered open interview times for anyone interested in joining the team. Though she didn’t know what to think about a retail job, Tracy decided to go to the open house.
Less than a week later she had a part-time gig at the Anthropologie store in Rockefeller Center. That’s right, literally a block away from the home of the famous Christmas tree, ice skating rink, and Al Roker’s daily weather forecasts.

While the job is part-time to start, there’s opportunity to potentially go full time. And if Tracy decides this job isn’t for her, it will at least provide her with a bridge to a different full time job.
Oh yeah, there’s a discount.
A rather nice discount. But if you know anything about Anthropologie, you know that it can be a bit pricey but filled with quality product. So we’ll have to fight the urge to spend the whole paycheck on clothes!
In all seriousness, we are stoked about the new opportunity. After training yesterday, Tracy wasted no time in getting started, as she went in for Day 1 today. After five hours in the store she gave me a call to deliver the initital verdict - she loved it.
Surely you can’t make too much of a single day in a new job. But it’s a great start.
