I apologize

I owe you all an apology.

You see, just about a week ago I posted about how we got a new Flip Mino, which is smaller than your cell phone and would allow us to post awesome videos of the crazy things we see around New York.

Fast forward to last night as Tracy and I were riding the subway home from a Young Life dinner we had attended.  It was close to 10pm and the train was relatively empty (which means it was full to capacity, but no need to pack us in like sardines as is the case during rush hour).

As our train pulled out of Grand Central a young man began to walk through a set up a boom box.  He began to give a speech.  If you’ve been a frequent rider on the NY subway system you’re probably familiar with the standard fare of these speeches, “I’m homeless, I need to eat, God bless, etc.” I don’t think this teen was homeless, but he started on his statement nonetheless.

But this speech was different.  In fact, there was no speech at all.

Instead, the young man pushed play on his boom box and began to provide a hip hop dance routine that was straight off of “So You Think You Can Dance”.  The kid had some serious skills.  To cap it off, he jumped and grabbed the overhead handle, pulling himself all the way up to the ceiling for a climactic pause before returning to the subway car floor and pressing stop on his boom box.

The whole car gave him a round of applause.

Like any seasoned showman, the young man had the ability to naturally connect with his audience.  So when he requested a simple donation from the crowd, more than a few obliged.  By my count, I think the kid made almost $10.

Not bad for less than 2 minutes work.

So like I said, I owe you an apology.  As fun as it may have been to read this account, I assure you it would have been better to see it with your own eyes.  I’ll try to remember the Mino next time.
