Sitting for Deac Tickets

Perhaps one of the greatest unknown films of our generation is a documentary classic, “Hands on a Hardbody” - the film is a true life account of 24 contestants who compete in an endurance contest to win a Nissan Hardbody truck from a Texas auto dealer.  The last person standing with his or her hand on the truck wins.

For those who have seen the documentary, you’ll understand what I mean when I say it is full of “human drama”.  And lest we forget, like in the Highlander, with the Hands on a Hardbody contest “there can be only one”.  Tracy and I were introduced to this classic during college when we watched it on (gasp!) a VHS tape.  We’ve tried several times since to rent it from Blockbuster (and were greeted each time by puzzled silence from Blockbuster employees who thought we were inquiring about a more adult type of movie).  I believe my good friend Michael Eller still has a VHS copy, and we introduced my sister Kelly to the movie a few years back. (As an interesting side note, it’s next to impossible to get a copy today, with the only one on Amazon selling for more than $100).

I tell you all of this because Kelly was inspired by Hands On and decided to bring a version of the contest to her real life.  She currently works for Wake Forest University’s Deacon Club and came up with the idea to run a contest called “Last Fan Sitting”.  More than 20 rabid Wake Forest fans began the contest on Monday to see who could brave the elements by sitting in Wake’s BB&T field, with the grand prize of lifetime permanent seat licenses for Wake Forest football games up for grabs.

The contest started on Monday morning at 5:30am and ended, as projected, with 9 contestants still sitting on Thursday.  To settle the tie, they held a Deacon trivia contest that was won by Bob Yakos.

Along the way, Kelly wrote a highly entertaining and heartwarming blog of the proceedings.  I encourage you to check it out and want to give a huge shout out to my sister who not only came up with this really cool idea but saw it through (on very little sleep) to the end with incredible results.

Great job Kelly, and looks like you might need to start a personal blog of your own!
