New York Yuppies

I guess Tracy and I are officially New York yuppies – I think you earn that distinction when you spend the better portion of your MLK day off at a wine tasting with more than a dozen others attempting to learn a little about the difference between syrah from the northern Rhone region of France vs. the fruitier, sweeter grenache/syrah blends of southern France.  We are hardly wine aficionados, but are friends with a couple guys who are deeply ingrained in all things fine wine and who have set up regular tastings to help educate the wine neophytes.

While I can’t boast an ability to smell “cedar” in my red wine or distinguish between fruit tastes as they hit my palette, by the end of the day I felt like I had a better understanding of Old World vs. New World characteristics and could appreciate the differences between grapes. I’m hopeful we’ll be able to glean a bit more over the next months from our connoisseur friends and perhaps someday live up to our yuppie description!
