Good News Friday

Here’s some positive, encouraging news to make you feel good as you head into the weekend.

Last week I went to one of Tracy’s basketball games, but ended up going a bit late as I tried to get a quick run in before the game (living out my resolutions!)  Though it was only about 15 degrees outside as I made my way to the game, I was burning up in my new puffy coat, having just completed the run.  So as I hopped on the subway I partially took off my coat for the ride.

Little did I know at the time that in taking off my coat, I had inadvertently dropped my wallet which was residing in the coat pocket.  In fact, I didn’t realize my mistake until more than an hour later as Tracy and I tried to get back on the subway to head home and I was sans wallet.

After retracing my steps to no avail, I cancelled credit cards and lamented the loss of the wallet itself, which was a Christmas present a couple years ago from Tracy.  Luckily, I had no cash on hand when I lost it, but I did have about two weeks left on an unlimited ride subway pass.

Fast forward to Wednesday of this week and I get an email from a co-worker down in Durham who happens to also be named Zack (and is thus the reason why I go by the moniker “Reggie” at work - a different story for a different time).  It turns out someone had found my wallet on the subway and went to the trouble of tracking down the owner - who they deduced was “Zack” in North Carolina based on the employee ID and NC driver’s license contained inside the wallet.

I was able to connect with the good samaritan by phone and a mere five minutes ago got my wallet back from “D”, a college student from Long Island who literally drove the found item to my office door on his way through Manhattan.  D wouldn’t even accept a reward I offered for his time, though he did hit me up for help in finding an internship, as he’s a finance major looking to start a career.

I’m hopeful I’ll be able to help him out in someway down the road, as D certainly made my week.  One thing’s certain, D knows how to “do the right thing” and has character in spades, and that’s something we can all agree the world (and especially the business world) needs more of.
