Two years ago

Two years ago I found myself walking up the stairs at the American Tobacco Complex in Durham, NC. I was nervous-excited-anxious-hopeful all wrapped up together in such a way that I could physically feel the emotions in my stomach.  I was coming off a short stint at a now-defunct software start-up.  I was less certain than ever about what my long term career would look like, and yet more hungry than ever for a job that would challenge and excite me.

It was my first day at Square 1 Bank.

So two years, one big move, countless spreadsheets, and a gigantic economic meltdown later, I find myself ecstatic with the way things turned out.  I count it a blessing to work for an institution which prides itself on operational transparency, demands entrepreneurial initiative, and rewards excellence.

In short, I love my job.  Sure, there are plenty of days when “the grind” is unavoidable (especially in today’s economy).  But if the last few months has taught me anything, it’s that we all need to appreciate the work we have - even the daily grind.

A lot has changed in two years.  Makes you wonder what the next two years hold!
