I’m in love with StatSheet.com

I can remember as a little kid waking up on Saturday mornings and getting all my baseball cards out of various boxes, binders and closet crannies to “reorganize” them all over again.

Like a lot of kids I loved baseball cards, and even had a subscription to Beckett so I could keep up to date on the relative value of my treasure.  Yet, for me, it wasn’t as much about how much my collection was worth - I had no unrealistic visions of how much my beloved Tom Glavine rookie card would be worth in 2050 - rather, it was always a love of the data and the joy I would get in memorizing, sorting, reorganizing over and over again.

I guess, in looking back, the cards are only a hint of what was to come with a relative obsession with data, statistics, and information of all sorts.  It’s what made me drool over the annual listing on NBA player salaries in USA Today and helps explain why even today I have an RSS reader complete with 75+ blogs that I “read” daily.

Of course, nothing is more fun than dissecting stats of something you really love.  Which is why I’m now officially in love with StatSheet.com.  The site is a new venture by an entrepreneur in NC who has created the single best way to view college basketball statistics I’ve ever seen. The possibilities are endless for a stat geek like me - team, player, conference and more - whatever kind of stat you can dream of, all in an easily dissected and visually appealing format.

Perhaps my favorite feature is the player comparison option which allows you to very easily compare stats across an array of players at a single glance.  The service also recommends good player comparisons (like Blake Griffin this season vs. Michael Beasley of last year), providing a veritable gold mine of information for guys who always say, “that guy reminds me of…”

So if you, like me, need something to fill the time before next Wednesday’s big UNC-Duke game, check out StatSheet so you can impress your buddies with your awesome knowledge.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.
