One thing that really excites me when I think about last weekend and the group of guys that are closest to me is the amazingly diverse talents that are represented in the group.

You have to look no further than the career paths our crew has taken to see what I mean.  We have aspiring doctors, a lawyer, a nurse anesthetist, a Hollywood power broker in training, two guys in real estate, a marketing exec, and a couple others in various parts of finance.

This gets me excited not because of the potential for future earnings or a lust for success and power.  Rather, I’m fired up because I believe this wide ranging breadth of knowledge and experience will help our group to more effectively change the world through service as we grow older.

Giving back and helping those less fortunate than us is something we talk about quite frequently.  But theory is nothing without action, so this year we decided to begin a new tradition at the Overlook Cup: a time to all work together on a service project.

In true Overlook fashion, we made the most of our time at the De La Salle Education Center, a “last chance” high school for underprivileged kids in Kansas City.  Paying homage to that great slice of Americana known as American Idol, we dubbed our Saturday morning “Overlook Gives Back”.

I found that taking some time to give back was both important and refreshing.  And as you can see in the above video, we had a little fun along the way.
