Random NYC Fact O’ The Day

Tracy and I decided to go for an evening jog in the Park last night, and it proved to be quite enjoyable given the lack of crowds and the mild weather.  While traversing our normal southern loop we eavesdropped a bit as a man driving one of the famous horse-drawn carriages told his guests some interesting facts about Central Park.

The one fact we were able to hear: The famous Tavern on the Green restaurant, located at the southwest corner of the Park, is the 2nd highest grossing restaurant in America - it did over $40 million in gross sales last year.

Needless to say, we were flabbergasted by this number and a bit skeptical. So I did a little Google search today and sure enough, the restaurant did over $38 million in 2007 - making it highly likely that they did more than $40 million last year.

So there you go - Tavern on the Green - a veritable money factory in the Park.
